    1. I can imagine 3 immigrants with robbed passports pedaling in a cabin buried below that beacon in order to keep it working

    2. You’re out of water.

      You’re only supposed to travel in the Arabian Desert at night, so you don’t become a crispyroll.

      There’s water out there, and you know it.

      The beacons are solar powered, and it’s nighttime.

    3. If I’m out in the desert and see a giant fucking laser coming out the earth, I’d probably assume it’s a mirage and walk in another direction

      This is why I always stay at the Luxor when I go to Vegas. I figure if I get drunk and lost on the strip or anywhere I can just follow the beam back to my hotel room.
